Moving Tips
Are you moving soon?
Must sell the house and don't know where to begin?
Well, preparing for your actual move can be one of the most crucial steps.
You've got questions, we've got answers.
Let's begin with
moving boxes. You never know how many you really need until you begin
packing.
Having most of your belongings already packaged up and ready to go will save
you time and money on the move day.
In order to close the boxes or tape drawers from opening, you will need
packing tape. This type is unlike the kind you will probably find at
your local store. Packing tape stretches for the purpose of tight wrapping
and also rips much easier than regular tape. Make sure to get plenty of
tapes because you will need them! Make sure to mark all of your boxes.
So now that you've went through your dresser or closet and found useless
items that you haven't seen or touched in years, you will need some
garbage bags. Having an organized surface will help your move process.
* Get rid
of anything that is:
liquid (liquor, shampoo, etc.)
flammable (gas tanks, cleaning supplies, etc.)
food (cans, sauces)
* Pack up your personal things (toothbrush, razor, soap, etc.)
* Keep the weight of your boxes reasonable
(usually not exceeding 40 lbs per box)
* If packing your furniture, do not apply tape
directly to polished or painted wood finishes.
Removing the tape could ruin the surface.
* Make sure you put away some plastic utensils,
paper plates, trash bags, etc. before you pack
your boxes, so you don't have to buy it again.
* The movers should have tools, but it's strongly
recommended that you have a small kit for items
that need to be disassembled.
* Move on a weekday if you can, when banks,
utilities, and government offices are open.
* If you move locally, you may want to leave your
pets with a friend during the moving day. Animals
can be frightened and confused during a move.
* Wrap small/or fragile items individually.
* Pack boxes to the top. This prevents them from being crushed when they are
stacked.
* Make sure your dresser drawers are completely empty.
* Make sure to carry with you any medication or any other important
documentation.
* Tape the bottom of every box, and tape the top tight when the boxes are
full. Run two strips
of tape along the side and one strip down the center.
* Make an inventory of your property. Premier Moving does not accept
liability and will not move
certain items. DO NOT PACK the following items: Money, securities, valuable
papers or jewelry.
Keep these items with you at all times. Alternatively, you may prefer to
leave these items in a
security deposit box at the bank.
